Sessions: Hillary Clinton’s Actions Jeopardized the Safety and Security of Americans

January 14, 2016

Pete Session released the following statement in response to a letter from the Inspector General’s office revealing that Former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s emails contained classified information:

“We live in a time where a cyber-attack is a real and constant threat to our country, yet our former Secretary of State and likely Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton either does not grasp this fact or does not care. Mrs. Clinton’s blatant disregard for protecting top secret information – information that could imperil American lives and has real national security costs associated with it – is just shameful, and her political posturing surrounding this issue should not be tolerated.

“A recent letter from the Inspector General’s office revealed that Mrs. Clinton sent ‘several dozen emails containing classified information determined by the IC (Intelligence Community) to be at the CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, and TOP SECRET/SAP levels.’ As Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton had a duty to faithfully protect this data and her failure to acknowledge her dangerous actions further jeopardizes the safety and security of our country. No public official should be allowed to carelessly ignore the requirements of the law for their own convenience, and those who do and put our national security at risk should face the full extent of the law.”
