What is the Sessions Plan for Clean Energy?
Pete Sessions supports responsible stewardship of our environment. He favors the American Energy Act, an “all-of-the-above” approach to our nation’s energy needs, which will:
- Make permanent tax credits for renewable electricity sources like wind, solar and biomass.
- Pave the way for new nuclear energy sources and responsible nuclear oversight.
- Encourage the use of clean coal-to-liquid technologies and repeal onerous prohibitions on government purchases of fuels derived from oil shale, tar sands and coal-to-liquid technologies.
- Update and streamline the refinery permitting process to encourage greater refinery capacity.
- Expand energy supplies by opening the Outer Continental Shelf and the Arctic Coastal Plain to responsible and environmentally-sound exploration and development.
- Codify the oil shale lease program to access an estimated 1.23 trillion barrels of oil, which is more than 50 times the nation’s proven conventional oil reserves.
- Provide tax credit incentives for businesses and homeowners to increase energy efficiency by home energy audits, smart meters, and purchasing of energy-efficient appliances, or more energy-efficient homes and commercial buildings.
- Spur private-sector energy innovation and growth through competitive award cash prizes for research, development, demonstration, and commercial application of new energy technologies and sources.
